Today’s outfit is a tribute to a garment from the 1920ies: stirrup pants.
Those were invented and designed in the 1920ies for horse riding. Back then women were finally allowed to say goodbye to riding sidesaddle and began to ride astride. The little strap at the end of the pant legs helped the horse riding ladies to keep it in place.
Beginning in the late 1930ies stirrup pants were also used for ski-wear. This trend became even more popular in the 1960ies, when not only women but also men wore those for skiing.
But our little fashion history lesson goes on. In the 1980ies stirrup pants were at the peak of their fame. To say it with the words of the Cincinnati Magazine: they are “being touted as the wardrobe basic of the year, and everybody is buying them” (according to Wikipedia 😉 ). When we think of the 80ies stirrup pants fit perfectly in the image of a fashion generation which was dominated by sports- and dancewear.
As the 80ies are back since last year it was just a matter of time that the stirrup pants are celebrating their comeback too. After I gathered some inspiration on Instagram I finally decided to implement the stirrup pants trend in my wardrobe, buying a pair at Zara.
I combined it with a felt hat, a fur jacket and a wonderful grey sweater and as a little eyecatcher a v-shaped kitten heel.
What do you think of stirrup pants? Would you like to try the trend?
Have a lovely and wonderful week,
